Review with Menu and Map

The Old Thameside Inn, one of the most popular locales operated by local pub chain, Nicholson's, was once an old spice warehouse and the remains of Winchester Palace still stand behind The Old Thameside. The cobbled road that runs behind the pub is linked to the original Clink Prison, while a full-scale replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous ship, the Golden Hind, sits beside on the Thames in front of the restaurant. The restaurant offers the full menu offering from Nicholson's including, of course, fish n chips, bangers and mash, meat pies, and traditional British roasts on Sundays.

The cobbled road that runs behind the pub is linked to the original Clink Prison, while a full-scale replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous ship, the Golden Hind, sits beside on the Thames in front of the restaurant.

We find that Nicholson's restaurants and pubs are consistently good. The pubs tend to be very well maintained and constantly updated and remodeled when necessary. Most pubs of this caliber that offer a full menu have moved towards more contemporary menus, abandoning most pub classics on their menus. The Old Thameside remains true to British tradition by offering most all the pub classics, including fish n chips, bangers and mash, meat pies and traditional British roasts on Sundays.

At the same time, there are plenty of the more contemporary options, like excellent salads, burgers and sandwiches. The Thameside has big screen TVs showing mostly sporting events making it a great place to stop for a drink or a meal for a solo visitor or a big group of friends wanting to cheer on their favorite team.

The restaurant sits adjacent to the Thames and provides and excellent view of the activity on the water from the terrace or the sidewalk.

The Old Thameside is a great pub-like tavern with a slightly modern edge.
