Popular with both locals and tourists for good reason ... It's the best spot in town for breakfast or brunch. Period. Well ... you might consider Cafe Drecshler over at Naschmarkt. Same owners. Same menu. Same friendly staff.
Meissl & Shadn - Best Upscale Restaurant for Local Cuisine
Wanting traditional Viennese cuisine in a classy, upscale setting? This is it. First class across the board. From the incredibly impressive fresh flower arrangements and starched white napkins and tablecloths to the blunt pounding of the cutlets in the open kitchen, this is the one spot to visit that shouts Austria at the perfect audible level. Choosing one restaurant while in Vienna? This is top of the list.
Salm Brau - Best Beer Hall & Garden for Local Cuisine
A trip to Vienna wouldn't be complete without a trip to a beer garden. We've put two on our list of favorites, each with district personality. Salm Brau features several rooms for indoor dining, including one big beer-hall, and a lovely courtyard with picnic tables for a pleasant beer-garden experience. A truly unique traditional menu.
Neni - Most Unique Breakfast Spot
Two locations, one in Naschmarkt and one at the edge of amusement park Prater, and more coming soon. This international chain of middle-eastern influenced restaurants, founded by celebrity chef, Haya Molcho, has salted-caramel pancakes, traditional fried eggs and bacon, or a North African shakshuka ... Something to please everyone at breakfast. The evening fare is just and interesting and delicious.
Edvard - Best Upscale Haute Cuisine
Located in the Kempenski, Edvard is not just another luxury hotel dining spot. Independently operated, it's the perfect mix of modern upscale dining with a creative tasting menu or at your option, an a la carte menu for a more traditional experience.
Zazatam - Best Eclectic Gourmet
New on the dining scene in Vienna. It boasts a sleek and sexy decor with the most interesting and diverse international menu in Vienna. From tamales to a Smores marshmallow pie. And it's surprisingly inexpensive. Undoubtedly the best value for upscale dining in Vienna.
Glacis Beisl - Best Casual Restaurant for Local Cuisine
These guys and gals wrote the book on how to do traditional regional fare with the perfect mix of class and comfort. An enchanting garden hidden beneath the bustle of the city this place has a personality that will appeal to almost everyone, even those that abhore pretense. Classy but unassuming. Don't miss Glacis Beisl. Everything's good but the goulash is, perhaps, the best in the city.
Ristorante Sole Vienna - Best Italian Restaurant
If you're staying a few nights in Vienna and need a break from sausages, beer and schnitzel, why not try this first-class Italian ristorante. It tops anything in Rome or Milan for Italian cuisine. That's a bold statement but I'll stand by it. The pasta, pizza and fresh fish dishes (yes ... they typically have Branzino) are all done right with the best ingredients.
Mama and der Bull - Best Steakhouse
Need a burger fix. Or maybe a good steak that won't break the bank? Casual dining spot, Mama und der Bulle ("Mama and the Bull") has managed to keep the price right by offering just three cuts of beef. And they're all quite good and prepared perfectly on each of my visits.
