Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is the celebrity chef’s flagship restaurant in Chelsea that has managed to garner acclaim and controversy in equal doses. For my money, I think it’s probably the best upscale dining experience in London. That is due in large part to Ramsay’s almost obsessive attention to detail and his insistence that employee in the organization meet his high standards.

Ramsay has proven that he is not only a world-class chef but has the ability to train protégés that excel to and beyond the bar. Clare Smyth, who after a long tenure under the eye of Ramsay has gained equal notoriety as the proprietor of Core in Notting Hill, is but one example of this.

In a world where restauranteurs rely on gimmicky tasting menus to gain notoriety it’s refreshing when you can finally find chef that still serves dishes on porcelain and bone china rather than plates of straw or platters of rocks from the beach.

At Restaurant Gordon Ramsay you are assured of a well-executed, sophisticated menu that is meticulously plated. Whether it meets or exceeds your expectations, I suppose, depends on your expectations. But suffice it to say, that the restaurant is one of a handful in London that can offer a true upscale, gourmet dining experience.

Service is reliably first class. Ambiance is sophisticated and elegant.

About my only complaint about lunch or dinner at the restaurant is that the establishment’s website looks and functions as if a third-grader created it. A minor transgression I suppose.
